Bar: 75% with Coffee Nibs
Maker: República Del Cacao (Quito, Ecuador)
Price: $6/100g (Quito Tourist Center)
Overall Rating: 3/10
Munch Factor: 2/10
Ingredients: Cacao Liquor, Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Coffee Nibs, Soy Lecithin (E322)
Appearance: Pre-broken mold with 8 squares, alternating being emblazoned with the brand and the country of origin; plain dark brown with coffee lumps.
Smell: Woody cocoa with sweet coffee and honey overtones.
The Melt & Snap: beautiful melt & good snap.
Taste: Sweet cocoa, but as soon as you bite into the first nib of coffee, in comes the very dark roast and burnt notes; it gets bitter and astringent very fast and never improves.
Complaints & Complements: The flavor overall is comparable to that of a 100% chocolate bar being melted in a fresh cup of dark roast coffee— bitter and hard to enjoy. The packaging is attractive, but that’s its most redeeming quality.
