I am absolutely enamored of SoMA, and I love a good mint infusion when I can find it, but this was just too much for me, even being 45%, high for a milk chocolate. Initially, I didn’t realize it was a milk chocolate, much less that it contains soy lecithin, an ingredient which I abhor and was not aware that SoMA used any of, but once I realize it I was much more prepared for the impact of the bar.
Aroma: Very sweet and creamy, and minty of course, but more soft mints from grandpa’s house than York mints, if you know what I mean.
Melt & Snap: I think if you breathed too hard in the same room, this thing would melt. No snap to speak of much, less hear.
Flavor: Very pleasing; all of my sensors went off on this one. Starts sweet, then turning in the direction of a mint ganache, and finishing with no bitterness and a continued creamy mouthfeel.
Complaints & Complements: It would make a wonderful truffle, and a wonderful present, if you can find it at the right price. I’ll try to save the rest for my sister, as I think she’ll enjoy this one, but it’s one of the weakest SoMA bars I’ve had yet, and I hope ever. It does not taste quite like a dark milk as one might expect a 45% milk to, so let that be a lesson. Would pair it with: whole milk or a tall glass of water (preferably also dark & handsome).
