Bar: Brazil with Coffee Nibs 75%
Maker: Akesson Chocolate (London, England)
Price: $11/60g (Direct From Maker)
Munch Factor: 3/10
Ingredients: cocoa, cane sugar, pure cocoa butter, coffee nibs (5%), emulsifier (GMO-free soya lecithin).
Appearance: the brightly-colored square packaging of Akesson’s bars has become a sort of trade mark of the brand, this vibrant yellow-green providing stark contrast to the medium-brown chocolate bar inside. On both fronts, the stylized “A” of Akesson’s family name is smack dab in the center, a solid piece of branding if I’ve ever seen one.
Aroma: Cuban coffee lite— super strong dark roast espresso, generous on the sugar.
Melt & Snap: beautiful melt & good snap.
Flavor: the deep coffee flavour of espresso keeps deepening until it’s almost bitter and then savoury. Right before it’s too far gone, however, a sweetness pulls you back up and the creaminess of the chocolate with the chewy coffee nibs reminds me of a fancy coffee drink. Finish is long and gives you coffee breath.
Complaints & Complements: I’ve had this bar a few times before and every single time I just never quite find the chocolate flavor. This is a coffee-lover’s bar, through and through, and its strength is not to be underestimated.
Context: in office before work OR breakfast.
