Appearance: Åkesson’s vibrant red and unique square packaging always stand out on a shelf. He shares only the most relevant information, and shows off his recent awards. The plastic inner packaging is a bit annoying as it’s not re-sealable, but the bar is beautiful, the dark brown being lighter than expected for a 100%. The stylized “Å” in the middle echoes the outside.
Aroma: quite deep, sweet cocoa with light fruit overtones. Smells of delicious baked goods.
Melt & Snap: beautiful melt & nice snap.
Flavor: Immediately a bit of tannin and some sweetness, with just the tiniest hint of savoury bitterness at the end. Strong cocoa throughout, without ever overpowering the cocoa’s inherent sweetness. Finish is lasting & muted, likely from the added cocoa butter, and doesn’t show off much of the red fruits flavor most people associate with malagasy cacao.
Complaints & Complements: One of the best 100% bars I’ve ever had, with such a mild flavor! Stunning packaging; very elegant. Would buy Have bought again for myself and (many) others.
