Ingredients: Cacao Beans, Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Milk Powder.
Appearance: medium brown thin bar, drowning in the packaging, with cacao pods & leaves etched into the mold.
Aroma: sweet caramel & cocoa.
Melt & Snap: okay melt & nice snap.
Flavor: smoky, nutty and almost immediate melt into caramel and sweet earthiness, with notes of carmelized fruit.
Complaints & Complements: this is an almost-addictive flavor. The caramel is a light flavor note throughout the bar, so the only thing stopping me from binge-eating the whole bar is this somewhat mucky texture that gives me pause. It’s fatty, but good.
Context: sitting in my office before lunch.
CHANGES: from this review forward, I will no longer rate the bars on a scale of 1-10, though “munch factor” (how much you want to keep eating it, usually due to sweetness and a lack of astringency) will remain. It often felt difficult to give a strict number to any bar, since the context in which you’re enjoying it can be drastically different depending on who you are. When you eat a chocolate with coffee or wine, or before or after a meal, or in a place with lots of strong sells, the experience is changed. Different flavors notes come to the front of your palate, while others are hidden altogether. So look forward to more thorough & less judgmental reviews in the coming months and years.
