Bar: Fall Spice Dark Milk (Brazil)
Maker: Harper Macaw (Washington, D.C., USA)
Price: ~$12.25/70g (The Chocolate House in Washington, D.C., USA)
Munch Factor: 4/10
Ingredients: cocoa beans, cane sugar, cocoa butter, nonfat milk, organic pumpkin [organic pumpkin, organic maltodextrin], cassia cinnamon, elephant ginger, pemba cloves, stone nutmeg.
Appearance: beautiful teal and burnt orange color scheme, pleasing the eye and definitely attracting customers. The name and description of the bar is printed on the front, keeping it necessarily bare, while the mold of the medium-brown bar inside echoes the hip, elegant packaging design. Burnt orange spice powder dusts the whole bar, having migrated from the coating of it on the back.
Aroma: pumpkin spiced hot cocoa mix, with the cinnamon and dried pumpkin the most prominent.
Melt & Snap: okay melt & good snap.
Flavor: chocolate side-down, the spices still permeate, sweet & deep with earthiness and just the essence of Starbucks in the fall. At the very end, the light flavor of cocoa dances over the top, but it’s quickly taken over by sweetness. Finish is long and Pumpkin Spice Latte-like.
Complaints & Complements: The entire packaging is not only recycleable, but it’s gorgeous. As always, Harper Macaw has provided a feast for the eyes and the mouth. Even though the flavor itself is not that complex and probably not meant to be, it’s certainly a crowd-pleaser and probably quite popular. The flavor is a little too strong and sweet for me, but it’d be the perfect present for the PSL-lover in your life.
Context: sitting at work before drinking my coffee or eating my breakfast. It’s a mild spring day with the window open.
