*Sun Eaters Organics 80% Dark

Sharing is caring!

Bar: 80% Dark
Maker: Sun Eaters Organics (Maracas Valley, Trinidad)
Price: $9/45g (LUVCACAO)
Munch Factor: 6/10
Ingredients: Trinitario Cacao Beans, Demerara Sugar, Organic Cacao Butter .

Appearance: dark blue horizontal-oriented packaging with a valley on a colorful gradient in the background, slowly getting lighter towards the top. I assume this is the Maracas Valley, where they’re located. They mention the company name and location, and even the farm they sourced from, but at first glance my gaze isn’t drawn to any one part of the bar. The chocolate itself is a medium brown, light for the percentage and molded into a plain blocked bar.
Aroma: strong, deep, dark & bitter, like fire-roasted cacao ground into a paste, with sweet noptes of molasses.
Melt & Snap: good melt & great snap.
Flavor: sweet, smooth cocoa, somewhat fatty with tropical fruit undertones and absolutely zero bitterness or tannin. Finish is short and sort of forgettable.
Complaints & Complements: this is an extremely munchable bar, but only if you concentrate enough. The muted fruitiness from the 70% version of this bar is almost completely lost here, leading me to believe that they added a near-unreasonable amount of cocoa butter to it. This bar would make amazing chocolate drinks, but the flavor is so mild that I’ve already forgotten it.
Context: in my office before a late lunch.
