About this recipe
Easy Butter Board Dip: teetering between sweet and a mild bitter tang is this whipped Kahloa butter, which you can also make nonalcoholic for a younger crowd with a sophisticated palate. It adds a surprisingly sweet, creamy, savory, and satisfying treat that goes with any array of salty snacks. Pair it with a chocolate butter and a butter caramel dip for the trifecta of flavors!
Sweet Sauce: one thing I'm always looking out for is new sweet sauces to add to my rotation. This coffee liqueur butter is actually the perfect all-purpose sauce for pastries or crackers, great for dipping or drizzling, as well as slathering on pound cake.
Which Butter to Use: unsalted Kerrygold is my preference for basically everything, but you can use any unsalted butter you have on hand.
Ingredients
Unsalted Butter: this is the base of the dip, and adds both heft and creaminess to the liqueur butter, offering an alternative to vodka butter with a nonalcoholic swap!
Coffee Liqueur (or Espresso + Condensed Milk): this alcoholic ingredient is the key to flavoring this bittersweet, creamy dip, but you don't have to use Kahlua if you have some other coffee-flavored liquor on hand.
How to make coffee butter: step-by-step instructions
Instruction: Put the butter and Kahlua into the food processor and blend well, until the butter starts to whip and the liquid is no longer pearling but rather completely emulsified together. Then just scrape it into a sauce container and enjoy!
Recipe notes & tips
Making it Vegan: just use a vegan-friendly butter of your choosing, or even a refined coconut oil so that you can be sure it won't interfere with the coffee flavor. Use a vegan coffee liqueur, or espressso with coconut condensed milk, if you can't find one.
Customizing the Sweetness Level: for a more or less sweet option, add in some coffee or condensed milk within that 2.5 tablespoons of liquid per half stick of butter.
How Long to Store: this coffee butter sauce is made with refrigerator-stable ingredients, so it will stay good in the fridge for up to a month in a well-sealed container.
Non-Alcoholic Version: in place of the kahlua add 1oz. of strong espresso, cold or room temperature, plus ½ to 1 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk.
