Bar: 100% Blend (Peru & the Dominican Republic)
Maker: Fruition Chocolate (Woodstock, New York)
Price: $9/60g (Caputo’s Online Shop)
Overall Rating: 7/10
Munch Factor: 1/10
Ingredients: Cacao Beans, Cocoa Butter.
Appearance: very dark brown with raised 4-leaf emblems patterned across the bar, and the brand name etched into the center. The design is consistent from the packaging to the bar, and aesthetically pleasing. Not resealable on the inside.
Aroma: sweet cocoa with light berry sweetness, though not very strong overall.
Melt & Snap: great melt & strong snap.
Flavor: slightly bitter feel and texture, and then flavor, but inherently a bit sweet. Dull acidity shows itself in the middle and then you really note the lack of sweetness. It’s a smooth flavor with rounded edges and sharp spikes of acidity before a long, almost sweet chocolatey finish.
Complaints & Complements: this is a chocolate-lover’s cocoa, and would make an amazingly intense hot chocolate, but it’s not in my top five 100% bars. It’s got too much bitterness and not enough shapeliness to distract you from it.
Context: sitting in my office before lunch.
