Bar: Arauca 70% (Colombia)
Maker: Cacao Hunters (Popayán, Colombia)
Price: $3.59/28g (Caputo’s online shop)
Munch Factor: 4/10
Ingredients: Cacao and Sugar.
Appearance: a plain square bar with the brand’s name imprinted in the center; dark brown color with a nice temper. The packaging is very straightforward, though hard to re-seal in any way.
Aroma: mossy and earthy with undertones of dark cocoa and dried fruits.
Melt & Snap: okay melt & strong snap.
Flavor: fruity and earthy, with a distinct lack of bitterness and low sweetness. Finish is a touch astringent and almost floral.
Complaints & Complements: this bar was an International Chocolate Awards winner in 2015. I love the varying colors of each origin’s bars; the company prides itself on sourcing mainly from Colombia, with the goal of helping Colombian cacao farmers, definitely something I can get behind. This bar is a good step forward for the reputation of Colombian cacao.
Context: in my warm apartment a few hours after dinner.
